How can i get my hair to be thin at the ends?

My hair isn't thick, but I would like to have it really thin in the ends. I want it so that if i put all my hair to the back of my head, it would be thin and go in an upside down triangle shape. lol, TERRIBLE description, i know...so here's a picture...

So, if i wanted that look, what do i tell my hairdresser? Is there a name, or is it just layering, thinning... What?

lol i know what you mean about the upside down triangle thing! tell your hair dresser that you want your hair thinned. i do it to my hair, too. it takes out the bulk and heaviness of your hair. thinning though can lead to a lot of split ends so make sure to deep condition!
